Safety and service as succes factors

Presentation of the new Austrian Airlines training facilities

One of the central strengths of the Austrian Airlines Group is its above-average level of quality. Austrian hospitality, friendliness, reliability, high safety standards and attentive, personal service are product features that passengers from all over the world have appreciated for decades. Regular top rankings in pertinent industry comparisons confirm the airline’s high quality standards. The fulfilment of these high quality requirements would not be possible without continual personnel training.

Two brand new mock-ups (life-sized aircraft models) that will be used for safety and service training were officially opened at the Austrian Airlines Group technical base on 24th June, 2003.

All safety training is completed in the so-called “CEET Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer”. The 14 metre long, 40 ton mock-up of an Airbus A320 is equipped with a hydraulic motion system and a special sound system, has a vertical travel of 1.2 metres and can move at 0.5 metres/second. This allows situations such a pressure loss in the cabin, turbulence, fire and smoke, behaviour during an emergency landing and much more to be simulated and trained in a very realistic manner. Additional systems such as a separate fire trainer and door trainer allow emergency situations to be trained specifically.

The new Airbus A320 and A330 mock-ups are used for food-service and procedural training. The A320 mock-up is 15 metres long, 4 metres wide and has 57 passenger seats. The A330 is 19 metres in length, 5.6 metres in width, is correspondingly larger inside and offers space for 24 Grand Class and 43 economy class seats. Both mock-ups have changing rooms, fully functional galleys, speakers, cabin monitors and cameras. State-of-the-art technologies and simulation systems allow especially realistic training.

In addition to introductory courses, the training programme also includes retraining, chef de cabin training, Grand Class courses, purser training, announcement training and basic training for the Japanese flight attendants. Training seminars have also been offered to outside customers under the title “Time for Service” for some time now.

The Austrian Airlines Group stands for the utmost professionalism and top quality, and these two new training facilities will ensure the continual further optimisation of these standards.
